Home Sweet Home

Built in 1896, this home is where my parents live and where memories of ancestors remain. The house stands with its old quirks and historic charm. Uneven bricks line the exterior. Door handles show chips and wear from the grasps of hundreds of hands throughout the many years. Weathered beams and wood still stand as buildings after enduring through centuries of storms, snow, and sun. Rows of crops and chickens are tended to with care. A view of the church is admired in the distance every day, reminding our family of the purpose and sacrifice that brought our family to establish this residence over 100 years ago.

Is It Scarves Or Scarfs?

Blouse, Belt, Boyfriend Jeans: LOFT. Scarf: Vintage. Flats: Romwe. Lipstick: c/o NYX Black Label, Brick.

Vintage scarves are my latest obsession. For realsies. It's a borderline addiction. Whenever I'm at a thrift store or scouring the Etsy interwebs for vintage goodies, I can't help but feel a magnetic pull to the scarves! Oh are they amazing.

After playing around with different ways to wear these babies, I discovered the above look which I like to call the belt bow. I'm sure I'm not the only one to ever do this, but I came to this idea on my own, therefore I am feeling particularly innovative in the accessories department.

Sick of your old belt? Belt bow it with a scarf. Outfit looking a little drab even after belting it? Belt bow it with a scarf. Need a pattern to mix up your solid tee? Belt bow it with a scarf.

My two other favorite ways to wear these skinny scarves are as a retro headwrap like I did here and here, or as a necktie like I did here for a fun alternative to a necklace.

I love it so much that I'm starting a linky party so we can all see how you style your vintage scarves! Get to that belt bowing! Your belts will thank you for such a charming companion.

Vintage And Baby Feet

I scored the most amazing vintage finds of my life this last week. Two fabulous, vintage polka dot dresses, a floral shift, and two blazers. Did you see one of them is Tahari? I just about passed out at the thrift store. After I quietly squealed and the store employee gave me the side stink eye.

And how can you not love those sweet baby feet? He crosses them when he sleeps! Ridiculously cute.

Thanks so much for all of your votes for the Circle of Moms Top Fashion & Beauty Blogs! There are only 2 days left and I would love for you to help me lock in that #3 spot! Do me a solid and hop on over here to submit your daily vote! xoxo

Dazed And Somewhat Confused

 Scarf: Sprightly So.
1960's Vintage Ray-Ban Case: Sprightly So.

Vintage World Globe: Sprightly So.

*Just a sneak peek of my favorites from the new vintage items up in the shop

For the last 9 months I have been reading pregnancy forums up the wazoo, or in my case, up the utero (ha! I am totally that person who laughs at their own lame jokes).

One thing I have wondered about the entire time and only bothered to look up now that I'm almost done is all the label business.

I have sat many nights, scratching my head and wondering,

"What the crap is a DH? Designated hitter? What's this DD nonsense? Daisy dukes? I'm missing something huge here"

You see, I have some extremely odd pet peeves. I kind of hate it when people abbreviate words. Like, I hate it a lot. I literally get goosebumps, just as a normal person would when hearing nails on a chalkboard, whenever the people at Little Ceaser's say,

"Ooooonne pep, coming right up!"

Yuuuuuggggg.
(that's my version of getting the heeby-jeebies)

It's not 'pep'. It's PEPPERONI!!!

Okay, I'm getting off track here, but my point is that I kind of hate stupid, acronym-type abbreviations too. Depending on what it is though. See, I told you it's a weird pet peeve. It's like a selective pet peeve. And even then I find myself saying and doing things I thought I hated. Don't worry, I'm the first to admit that I am a hypocrite sometimes, but c'mon... aren't we all? Just a little?

Anyway, DH (dear husband) and DD (dearest daughter) and all that other stuff kind of fall into that pet peeve list. Unless it is just a bunch of fed-up, pregnant ladies that are referring to their family members with sarcasm. Then I can understand the need to say "dear husband... that I want to punch in the face for doing this to me". If you haven't noticed by now, I have definitely become that pregnant lady who is highly irritable and a little bit mean. Sorry, but I'm just being honest with you all! Let's just blame it on the hormones.

Overall, language these days is getting confusing. I'm having a hard time keeping up, and I consider myself to be a pretty tech-savvy youngster. Poor old folks. Mom and Dad, if you are reading this, I feel your pain. Let's just stick to talking on the phone the old fashioned way, shall we?

Well my DR's (dear readers), it's been fun but I G2G. TTYL! LYL!

Yellow Submarine

(Fun fact: Click on the post title to hear the song )

Earlier this week, Matt and I explored San Deigo Harbor & Coronado Island as we took the ferry round trip from the harbor to the island.  The area is full of so much naval history and current naval activity, including the carrier that supposedly dumped Osama bin Laden's body! Crazy, huh?

The views from the ferry are breath-taking. If your blood pressure needs lowering and your life needs a stress-free break, I suggest going on this excursion.

Coronado is the stuff fairy tales are made of. The houses are whimsically charming and the shops and restaurants are quaint and welcoming. Island Pasta is one of the best pizza and pasta shops in the world. All ingredients are made from scratch and the food is fresh, fresh, fresh! I seriously suggest it if you are going there anytime soon or live in the area and haven't tried it yet!

I was so excited to be able to wear my bohemian hippie skirt. Now, I'll let you in on a little secret. I bought that skirt back in 2004 at a thrift store as part of a costume. Multiple times I considered throwing it out, but my inner fashion guru told me to hold out! Now my tie-dyed little number is right on trend! Best $2 I ever spent!
Moral of the story: Hold on to those wacky pieces you think you'll never wear, because you will!

Jessica's outfit from earlier this week inspired me to put together my own version of the look by pairing a long skirt with a striped tee, and I am loving my mixed print result! Try mixing your tie-dye and stripe pieces sometime this week. I think you'll love it!

Have a peaceful day ☮.

Jackie Kennedy Onassis: Timeless

Hubby and I went on a Kennedy kick at the beginning of this week.

With Netflix as our BFF, we watched the TV miniseries, The Kennedys.

Katie Holmes makes a dashing Jackie Kennedy and as I am a major fashion junky, of course I was ooing and awing at the wonderful costumes and remakes of actual fashions worn by the late First Lady.

Hello! These sunnies are fab. I think I need to go get the exact same pair!

Look at how elegant! Love!

 The real Jackie Kennedy

Katie Holmes as Jackie Kennedy...she's a great match, huh!?

I highly recommend the miniseries if you are a history/fashion lover such as myself. It's a bundle of everything we love packed into 8 hours of laughter, tears, drama, and greatness.

My clothes have been packed away in suitcases and boxes (still!) for the past two weeks and I have been living in my boyfriend jeans and tees (not the most fashion forward look). I know I have been a total slacker with personal fashion posts, but they will be coming. I cross my heart and pinky promise.

Hope you are having a wonderful week!

Baubles and Beanies

My grandmother is an inspiration to me through her spirit. Although I never knew her intimately, my dad always says I received my love of fashion and color from her.

Thanks, Grandma Bessie :)

The necklace is my statement piece. It is true vintage, circa 1950s.

Mustard skirt, LOFT; striped ruffle tee, LOFT; beanie, F21; gold flats, Nine West; necklace, vintage
This skirt is my staple this season. Whether I pair it with metallic flats, stilletos, or booties, it always looks cute!

The gathered, ruffle waist and backhook detail are divine & the vibrant yellow looks fab when mixed and matched with practically any color!

If you must have this skirt, check here to see if your local LOFT still has it in stock! You won't regret it!

Also, I just wanted to say hello to my new followers and thanks for stopping by! I'm so excited to get to know all of you and hear about your tricks of the trade!

Don't forget to visit, i believe in unicorns, so you can win one of my necklaces as a giveaway!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!
