Thanksgiving is right around the corner and I have been thinking up ideas for what to wear on Thanksgiving Day.

I decided I need a lot of color in my life this holiday season . . . and every other day after that. As hard as I try to love and accept a muted, minimal wardrobe, I just end up getting depressed at all of the white, black and grey taking over my closet. You know what it reminds me of? One of those gigantic, abandoned industrial plants. I get all sad and frowny in places like that. I suppose I just need to accept the fact that I quite literally thrive when my surroundings are colorful.

I don't know why I am trying so hard to push away color. Because it's trendy? (Why do I get sucked into all the trends? What does this mean on an existential level?) I guess I thought it would be easier to match things and be able to grab and go if it is all in one color family? Black is wonderful in the sense that it is classic, slimming and will generally go with anything, but I need color. I need patterns.

Putting together this outfit brought out all of that happiness. I love mustards, dark blues, greens and reds in the fall and winter. And prints! The dots on those trousers are perfect. And those red pumps! I think they were made for me, and I know what I am asking Santa for for Christmas! (Maybe he will even bring them a little early so I can wear them for the entire month of December? Matt Santa, are you reading this?) Also, let's talk about lip crayons/pencils or whatever you want to call them. I LOVE THEM. I am kind of terrible at getting my lipstick just right (now that would be a fun picture book to read — Goldilocks and the Three Lipsticks!), and it always seems to bleed, no matter how much powdering and blotting I do. Lip crayons are genius because they apply evenly and actually stay on.

Overall, I just feel like this outfit is classic, playful and comfortable, which basically means it is the perfect thing to wear (as a mom who will inevitably end up with mashed potatoes smeared on my clothes) on Thanksgiving. And bonus! These items would carry over well into the rest of the year and seasons.

Have fun putting together your own ideas for Thanksgiving Day outfits!

Love it! And I agree about getting sucked into the trends..it really gets into your head! Grey, black, minimalist -- hard to escape it but you've inspired me to try :).
