Simple Skincare Routine (And A Giveaway!)

This is me without a stitch of makeup (and applying moisturizer, obviously). I have freckles, uneven patches, redness, a few pimples, and melasma that is setting up a permanent residence on my upper lip (caused from pregnancy hormones). Basically, I have a normal face, because hardly anyone in the world has perfect skin, although photo editing in magazine spreads and on blogs would tell you otherwise.

My skin is annoyingly sensitive, and was reacting to my makeup — from the multiple layers of products I was putting on it, to the makeup remover wipes and cleansers to take it off, it started getting red and stingy anytime there were harsh chemicals on it. I had to start taking breaks from wearing any makeup at all to let my skin take a breather, especially around my eyes. You know something is wrong when it feels as though your makeup is burning off your face, right?

Anyway, when I was approached about the Simple Skincare line, I dove in head first because it sounded exactly like the type of skincare product I needed. It specifically keeps the sensitive-skinned folks in mind by doing away with harsh chemicals, perfumes, dyes and parabens, and is packed multi-vitamins.

It has been a little over one week since I started using the entire range of products and I already notice a difference. Even Matt and my dad made comments about my skin within two days of using it, and you know how men are — they never notice that stuff! I was on FaceTime with my dad and he was all, "Wow, you are looking radiant!" The day before that, I came out of the bathroom with a freshly dolled up face and Matt just stared at me and said something looked different and good about my skin. Coincidental? I think not! This stuff makes your face dewey and glowy.

This is the routine I follow daily (or try to anyway!), and as a result my skin is breaking out less, it is softer, brighter, and has not been dry or flaky:

Simple Skincare recently took a poll from women in top U.S. cities asking them about their own skin care routines and lifestyle habits that influence skin quality. The results gave me a sigh of relief after I realized I wasn't the only one that let's it slip every once in awhile. More than 27% of women have gone two days without cleaning their skin at night; 59% are not actively protecting their skin from the elements by wearing a moisturizer with sunscreen in it; over 50% of women are not eating foods that work wonders for skin (brussel sprouts, avocados, walnuts, salmon, etc); 63% are aware that stress affects quality of skin, yet only 53% are actively trying to do something to lower their stress levels.

Does this sound familiar? It does for me. After reading up on that survey, it has inspired me to be better about leading a lifestyle that promotes healthy skin and overall well-being, instead of only a routine. Along with my listed routine, I am going to eat more skin superfoods, drink more water, de-stress more often. (Or try to anyway!)

Now it's your turn to take part in transforming your skin! Simple Skincare is giving away their complete skin care line pictured above to one of you lucky readers! Just enter in the Rafflecopter widget below. Good luck!

You look amazing Abbey!! You should rock the natural look more often (even though you look great both ways!). I stopped wearing make up about a month ago, besides going out when I wear mascara, and it's been a really good thing. I'm trying to love myself for exactly who I am and going with my natural look has pushed me to do so. Like you said, nothing we see in social media/media really encourages this, so its hard sometimes, but it drives me to want to do it even more. I commend you for being YOU and sharing it for the world to take note. I enjoy the realness of your blog and find it refreshing to actually be able to relate to a blogger. Honestly, its one of the few I still follow. Loves!!
