Grateful

This somber time in the world, coupled with the holiday season is the perfect opportunity to count the blessings in my life. Gratitude and love sometimes remain the only things I can give back to the world when it seemingly overflows with darkness, cynicism, and hate.

I am grateful to greet my darling boys with a smile each morning, and to embrace them tightly before we lie down to sleep each night, knowing each day is a cherished gift not to be taken lightly. Life is fleeting, and the paralyzing reality of those split second moments when something or someone is suddenly gone may always be on the horizon.

I am grateful for my faith and belief in a place and purpose beyond this world. Many times it's the only place in which to take solace.

I am grateful for the strangers taking a chance on this dreary world and giving love and kindness to every suffering soul in dire demand of humanity and hope... that's all of us, really. Loving instead of poisoning, and learning to take the poison, to in turn heal from the bites and stabs.

I hope we can all focus on the overabundance of blessings during this time and holiday season, and find a way to illuminate our small, yet significant piece of the puzzle in this world.
