Decorating For Christmas

We are of the opinion that Christmas should be celebrated as long as possible, which explains why we put up our Christmas tree on November 2. I did hold out from posting these family decorating photos until now, so I think that is some sort of achievement. Anyway, these are obviously from a month ago. Wes was so teeny tiny! Can't believe how fast those little hooligans fatten up.

Someday we will have a real Christmas tree to scent our house with that fresh, piney smell. Until then, this is our trusty fakey. She's been with us for 5 years now, plastic spindles and all. We've developed somewhat of an attachment, clearly. The lights still work, for Pete's sake! If that's not loyalty and commitment, I don't know what is.

We started a new tradition and started out the festivities with snagging our favorite VG's donuts and then got to spiffing up our home. Luke was able to help put up ornaments this year, although it ended up looking like a launching pad of flying balls somewhere in the middle. I've had a few people ask how we do the Christmas tree thing with a toddler and it's called shatter-proof ornaments. It's also been a good opportunity for him to practice listening and following through to the words "don't touch" and "no". So far, so good. He also has his own 4 footer in his room that he may assault as he pleases, which I assume helps with the non-aggressive behavior toward the main tree.

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen these pom pom ornaments and garland I made for the tree. You see, the upside of decorating for Christmas once November rolls around is that you can redecorate when the rest of the world deems it appropriate to initially decorate. Enter my color explosion (not pictured... yet). It looks like a piñata exploded and died on our tree. Hey, no qualms here. We are Mexicans after all (I'm an honorary Rodriguez, but my husband is 1/4, which makes my babies 1/8!).

Fa la la la la la la la la!

So fun! Love the donuts tradition. We do oreo milkshakes (with Christmas oreos, of course!) while we decorate!

Gorgeous photos! VGs are the best, huh? If I could eat there every day, I would! :)
